What is liquid metal paint?
Liquid paint is a process of coating metal which is carried out using a spray gun. The coating is sprayed onto the metal surface in one or more layers, depending on the type of liquid paint used and the purpose of the coating (primer, finish, intermediate layer).
This paint can be applied to all types of metallic materials. It has a good elastic resistance to wear and impact, as well as to chemical attack, fire (for certain types of paint) and corrosion.
Types of liquid metal paint
Liquid Epoxy Coating
Liquid epoxy coating is the perfect choice to protect your metal surfaces from chemicals and the damage they could cause. It also offers excellent corrosion protection.
This coating can hardly be scratched and it is resistant to water and impact, which makes it perfectly suitable for all surfaces. Several finishes are available: lustrous, glossy or transparent. It can either be used as a top coat, primer or as an intermediate layer.
Polyurethane coating
Oil-based, this type of coating is suitable for metal but also for plastic. It has a shiny finish and offers excellent resistance. Very good protector against solar rays, it protects the primary layer and retains the luster of the color.
Polyaspartic coating
Of a higher grade than the other alternatives, polyaspartic coating replaces conventional coatings (epoxy and polyurethane).
This coating is applied in a single layer and its application requires a higher level of expertise due to its rapid drying. This is an advantage because it increases productivity.

Liquid metal paint is suitable for all types of parts that include elements involving welding and mechanical applications. It can also be used when several coats are applied to prevent metal corrosion.

Advantages of liquid metal paint
Precision
Applying the liquid metal paint with a spray gun allows for high precision. This is a quick process since the drying time is reduced.
Less demanding pre-treatment
We recommended degreasing before applying the coating but shot peening and chemical degreasing are less necessary with liquid metal paint than with powder paint. A good coating quality can be achieved without performing these steps.
Optimal finish
Spraying with a spray gun ensures a perfect finish. It gives a uniform result with a smooth finish that provides a protective layer to surfaces. In addition, there is no microbubble formation, which could affect the protective properties of the paint.
It adapts to a large number of categories of metal parts
It is possible to coat larger parts. Compared with powder paint, with some types of liquid paint, drying can be done without putting the parts in an oven because some liquid paints require lower drying temperatures.
For the same reasons, the metal elements do not have to have such a high resistance to high temperatures since cooking is not always necessary to carry out the drying step. This reduces the risk of damaging parts that are more sensitive to temperature.
Liquid paint can be applied to parts that do not conduct electricity. A greater variety of materials can receive this coating because it does not rely on an electrostatic process.
Wide variety of coatings
Liquid metal paint comes in a variety of colors, finishes, and textures. It therefore provides great control over the aesthetics and design of the finished products.
Steps involved in the liquid metal paint coating process
Performed in the factory with advanced technological equipment, several steps are necessary for a high-quality application:
- Sandblasting with aluminum oxide (oxyblast) so that the surface is suitable for coating
- Masking (if certain elements of the parts should not be coated)
- Application of the first coat (primer)
- Application of the intermediate and final coats of paint
- Light cooking to prevent certain contaminants or dust from sticking to surfaces
- Air drying
